Fixed term 15 months - With possible extension for another 8 months
This is an exciting opportunity for an applicant with experience in molecular ecology and entomology to work join the Centre for Applied Entomology and Parasitology, at Keele University. The candidate will participate in new research project focusing on 'Anopheles funestus gene flow studies
and rearing' headed by Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania
and involving partners from the University of Glasgow, UK, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, the Centre for Research in Infectious Disease, Cameroon and the Institute of Disease Modelling, USA. The project aims to improve our understanding of the population structure of the mosquito, Anopheles funestus, an under-studied malaria vector species responsible for much transmission in Tanzania and Southern-African countries. The result of these studies will inform novel vector control interventions.
The candidate will conduct gene flow studies using genetic markers and use a variety of molecular ecological and population genetic tools to infer mosquito population structure and detect physical and reproductive barriers between sub-species of the Anopheles funestus complex.
Keele University values equality and diversity across our workforce and to ensuring our staff community is reflective of the diversity of our student population. In support of these commitments the University welcomes applications from individuals of Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds for all roles.
For informal enquiries please contact Prof. Frederic Tripet (f.tripet@keele.ac.uk).
