The post holder will contribute to an exciting Innovate UK funded project called Urban-x which is part of the key technology components for local energy systems programme. Within Urban-x, Keele University has teamed up with energy technology company Qbots to develop a smart energy trading system on Keele campus that aims to support the UK’s journey to net zero carbon emissions. This project will make use of the data and facilities enabled by the £15M Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) at Keele.

The post holder will be part of a team researching and designing novel optimisation and machine learning algorithms for local energy trading systems. He/she will also contribute to the deployment of the energy trading system on Keele campus as well as other sites and subsequent data analysis of trial results. The post holder will work closely with a wide range of project stakeholders including academic researchers, industry partners, Keele Estates and disseminate the project findings through publications in high quality journals and conferences.
The successful candidate will have a PhD (or close to completion) in an appropriate subject area such as Engineering or Computer Science, and experience of designing optimisation algorithms and applying machine learning techniques to practical systems.
