To work within the Mental Health Research Group in the Primary Care and Health Sciences to deliver an SPCR-funded study and to deliver a project within the School of Medicine's Medical Education Research Group (MERG) funded by the Medical Schools Council Assessment Alliance.
You will have a Masters in a relevant health related discipline, such as psychology or medical education or equivalent experience in the design, analysis and writing up of research studies. You must have experience of qualitative methods research, undertaking complex analysis of qualitative data, along with experience of managing, writing up and presenting findings of research projects. Good time management and organisational skills; an ability to work within teams and independently; and willingness and ability to travel are essential.
The MERG project will focus on "standard setting" practices (i.e. the process through which the pass mark for an exam is determined) for final year exams in UK medical schools. It will use a mixture of individual interviews and direct observation of standard setting meetings to understand how procedural practices, individual beliefs, and institutional culture vary between different medical schools in the UK and the implications of such differences on the standard that is set for final examinations. The findings are likely to importantly influence future policy within Medical Education in the UK.
