The Stoke Academic Rheumatology Unit (SARU) is an established consortium of academic rheumatologists including two professors, five medical senior lecturers, a lecturer and a substantial number of AHP and nursing clinical academics. The academic rheumatology unit is located within the clinical department of rheumatology at the Haywood Hospital (a British Society of Rheumatology award winning specialist rheumatology centre) and spans the Institute of Primary Care and Health Sciences, the Institute for Applied Clinical Sciences and the Institute for Science and Technology in Medicine, Keele University.
Under the guidance of the Rheumatology Consultant / Honorary Senior Lecturer in Rheumatology, to provide the Stoke clinical research component of an NIHR programme grant 'Early detection to improve outcome in patients with undiagnosed psoriatic arthritis', (chief investigator Prof Neil McHugh, University of Bath RP-PG-1212-20007). This includes clinical evaluation of patients with psoriasis identified from GP practices for the presence of psoriatic arthritis / axial inflammation over a 3-year period. For appropriate candidates, there is a possibility to develop a shared clinical post within the Haywood Rheumatology Centre, SSOTP.
The post holder will have the opportunity to undertake a Higher Degree during the Fellowship, with a doctorate broadly focussed on axial inflammation combining data (including radiological) from the programme grant and other psoriatic populations.
